My take: I wouldn’t be surprised if Martin becomes a starter as a rookie. The 49ers have Daniel Kilgore, whom they gave him a modest contract extension, but Martin can be a superior player. If Kilgore is great in camp, he will keep the job for now, but Martin is the future.

Muench’s thoughts: Because ESPN draft experts Mel Kiper and Todd McShay often had Martin to the 49ers in mock drafts, I spoke to Scouts Inc.'s Steve Muench about Martin recently. Muench on Martin: "Great size and athleticism. He’s a bright player. However, some scouts question his toughness. Still, many scouts think he can be an instant starter."
