Seahawks' offense sputters in San Diego

SAN DIEGO -- A few thoughts on the Seattle Seahawks' 16-15 win over the San Diego Chargers.

Big picture: Yes, it’s only the preseason, but the Seahawks’ first-team offense managed two field goals and four punts on six possessions in two-plus quarters. Russell Wilson averaged 3.7 YPA, and Jimmy Graham caught two balls for 24 yards on five targets. The offense could get some work in the preseason finale against the Raiders before preparing for the opener against the Rams.

On the bright side: The Seahawks look like they might really have something in wide receiver/return man Tyler Lockett. The third-round pick took a punt return 67 yards to the house in the second quarter. It’s his second special teams touchdown of the year. Lockett had a 103-yard kickoff return in the preseason opener against the Broncos. Lockett wasn't the only highlight on special teams. Kicker Steven Hauschka booted a 60-yard field goal with 16 seconds left to give the Seahawks the win.

Pressing question: Will the offensive line be able to build any continuity before the opener? Russell Okung sat this one out with a shoulder injury, although the team said it’s not believed to be serious. Alvin Bailey took his place at left tackle and looked shaky. Justin Britt appeared to have some issues at left guard as well. The Seahawks have been mixing and matching all summer, but now might be the time to settle on the best five with the opener two weeks away.

Stars return: Richard Sherman and Marshawn Lynch saw their first action of the preseason. Sherman played the entire first half with the rest of the starters and looked good. Lynch played three snaps and touched the ball on all of them. He started off with a 6-yard carry, but later was stopped on third-and-1. Lynch also caught a pass for a 3-yard gain.

Injury notes: Linebacker K.J. Wright played great in the first half, but left the game in the second quarter after Chargers left tackle King Dunlap took him out on a run play. Wright walked off under his own power but did not return.
