RENTON, Wash. -- Since Week 11, Cam Newton and Russell Wilson have combined for 37 passing touchdowns and one interception. The Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks are a combined 10-0 during that span, and it's possible that the teams will meet in the NFC playoffs.
Wilson was asked this week whether he's kept an eye on Newton and the undefeated Panthers.
"Yeah, I mean Cam Newton is playing unbelievable football," Wilson said. "He’s lights out right now. It’s fun to watch him, I’m really happy for him. Not too happy, because I don’t want him to beat us if we play in the playoffs. I want to make sure he plays all his good games, get them all out of the way now. But no, I think that he’s an unbelievable football player. He’s done such a special, special thing there, and they’ve got a great team. Obviously their defense is really good. They’ve got a lot of great players on offense. What him and Greg Olsen are doing, it’s pretty cool to watch."
The teams met in Week 6, with the Panthers rallying for a 27-23 victory. Wilson completed 18-of-30 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown in the game. Newton went 20-of-36 for 269 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. He led the Panthers on three 80-yard scoring drives in the second half.
The Seahawks are the No. 5 seed, and the Panthers are on track to have home-field advantage throughout. That means a potential showdown in the divisional round or the NFC title game.
Wilson was asked if he feels like the Seahawks are flying somewhat under the radar because the Panthers are undefeated.
"Well they deserve all the attention," he said. "They’re undefeated in the National Football League, and they beat us. That’s the honesty of it. It comes down to winning games, and they beat us in a tough environment. So you’ve got to give them a lot of respect."
