Tharold Simon continues to impress

RENTON, Wash. -- Cornerback Tharold Simon picked up where he left off from the last day of organized team activities last week and was a standout once again in the first day of minicamp Tuesday, breaking up several passes and showing his speed and athleticism.

His best play came on a deep throw from Tarvaris Jackson that was intended for Ricardo Lockette, one of the fastest players on the team.

Simon (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) was step for step with Lockette down the sideline before leaping to deflect the pass near the goal line. Simon was a fifth-round draft choice last year from LSU, but missed all of his rookie season after undergoing surgery on both feet.

“I’m really excited about this guy and everything he’s done,” Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said of Simon. “He’s had a fantastic offseason for us. I really like the way his teammates have rallied for him in his comeback [from injuries].

“He’s competed well and he’s exactly the kind of guy we like -- real tall and real long and runs really well downfield. He covers the deep ball extremely well.”
