How does Auburn plan to beat Clemson? Play 13 on offense

AUBURN, Ala. -- Tabbed an offensive guru in the past, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn has been known to mix up formations and try to keep the defense on its toes. But 13 starters on offense? That’s a new one even for Malzahn.

Auburn released its Kickoff Week depth chart Tuesday and there were 13 different positions listed on the first-team offense. In addition to having a quarterback, a running back and five offensive linemen, there was an H-back, a tight end and four wide receivers all listed as starters.

If only all 13 could play at once. Then, maybe the betting line for Saturday night’s Clemson game would start trending in Auburn’s favor.

As it stands, the Tigers will still have to play with 11 on offense. The depth chart was simply accounting for various formations and the different players that would play in different sets. Imagine all the possibilities if Malzahn could play with 13. His head might explode.
