As usual, there were several noteworthy performances around the league.
But only the best of the best are worthy of helmet stickers:
Kentucky running back CoShik Williams: Kentucky's running back stable had been shrinking all season but Williams stepped up Saturday in the 38-14 win over Jacksonville State, snapping Kentucky’s four-game losing streak. After Raymond Sanders left the game early with an ankle injury, Williams came off the bench to rush for a career-high 148 yards on 22 carries. The 5-9, 178-pound junior had carried the ball just 17 times total in the previous six games this season.
Arkansas running back Dennis Johnson: After struggling with a hamstring injury earlier in the season, Johnson was the spark the Hogs were looking for Saturday in their comeback 29-24 win over Ole Miss. Johnson broke loose for a 52-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter on a third-and-13 play. The Hogs were trailing 17-0 at the time and looking for anything to jolt them, and Johnson’s run did that. He finished with a career-high 160 rushing yards on 15 carries.
LSU’s defensive line: These guys probably deserve a helmet sticker every week with how dominant they've been up front all season. But LSU’s defensive line was relentless on Saturday in the 45-10 battering of Auburn, which was the worst Auburn has been beaten in this series ever. LSU sacked Auburn quarterback Clint Moseley six times, and sophomore defensive end Barkevious Mingo had two of those. LSU finished with 10 tackles for loss in the game, and seven of those were courtesy of defensive linemen.
Vanderbilt running back Zac Stacy: The Commodores won for the fourth time this season, and Stacy was the offensive workhorse with a career-high 198 rushing yards on 21 carries. He also scored three touchdowns in the 44-21 win over Army. Stacy’s 198 rushing yards were the third most for a Vanderbilt player in school history. One of Stacy’s three touchdowns was a 55-yard scamper in the fourth quarter to seal the win after Army had pulled within 37-21.
Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron: The Crimson Tide sophomore passed for a career-high 284 yards and had one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown to spearhead Alabama’s second-half onslaught. The Crimson Tide scored 31 unanswered points to break away from Tennessee and win 37-6. McCarron started the second half 8-for-8, including a 39-yard scoring strike to Kenny Bell.
