LSU's Claiborne rising fast on NFL boards

LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne is quickly emerging as one of the SEC's hottest NFL draft prospects.

ESPN's Todd McShay has Claiborne No. 4 in his latest breakdown of college football's top 32 draft prospects. McShay says that Claiborne, a junior, is "clearly the best draft-eligible cover corner" and locking down his status as a top-10 pick.

Also, ESPN's Mel Kiper has Claiborne No. 6 this week on his latest Big Board of the top 25 draft prospects. Kiper says Claiborne is an "exceptional pure cover corner with impeccable instincts."

Claiborne would be the second LSU cornerback in as many years to go in the top 10 picks. Patrick Peterson went No. 5 overall last year to the Arizona Cardinals.

The top NFL draft prospect in the SEC, according to both Kiper and McShay, remains Alabama running back Trent Richardson. He's No. 3 on both of their lists.

Other SEC players on Kiper's board include:

  • No. 11 -- South Carolina receiver Alshon Jeffery

  • No. 16 -- Georgia offensive tackle Cordy Glenn

  • No. 19 -- Alabama linebacker Courtney Upshaw

  • No. 25 -- Alabama cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick

Other SEC players on McShay's list include:

  • No. 13 -- Alabama cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick

  • No. 19 -- Alabama safety Mark Barron

  • No. 22 -- Alabama linebacker Courtney Upshaw

  • No. 23 -- South Carolina receiver Alshon Jeffery

  • No. 24 -- Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones
