McShay has 10 SEC players in first round

ESPN's Todd McShay has 10 SEC players going in the first round of his latest mock NFL draft.

Alabama leads the way with four players in the top 15 picks, which if that happens, would give Alabama eight first-round selections over the last two years.

McShay has LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne as the first SEC player to come off the board and going No. 3 overall to the Minnesota Vikings.

The other top 10 selections from the SEC in McShay's mock draft are Alabama running back Trent Richardson going No. 4 overall to the Cleveland Browns and Alabama cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick going No. 6 overall to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

All three players are underclassmen.

Here's how the rest of McShay's first round looks from an SEC perspective:

  • Alabama outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw No. 13 to the Arizona Cardinals

  • Alabama safety Mark Barron No. 15 to the San Diego Chargers

  • Mississippi State defensive tackle Fletcher Cox No. 20 to the Dallas Cowboys

  • South Carolina receiver Alshon Jeffery No. 22 to the New York Jets

  • Georgia outside linebacker Jarvis Jones No. 28 to the Pittsburgh Steelers

  • South Carolina defensive end Mevin Ingram No. 29 to the New England Patriots

  • Mississippi State cornerback Johnthan Banks No. 31 to the New England Patriots

It should be noted that Jones has already said that he's returning to Georgia and not entering the draft. There's also a strong chance that Banks will return to Mississippi State for his senior season.

Of the 10 SEC players McShay projects to go in the first round, seven are underclassmen.
