The drought is over for Ole Miss, and there’s no telling when Auburn’s will end.

The Rebels snapped a 16-game SEC losing streak Saturday with a 41-20 win over the reeling Tigers.

The second half told you all you need to know about these two programs right now. Ole Miss outscored Auburn 24-3 to break open a 17-17 halftime tie and win going away.

The Rebels (4-3, 1-2) are now two wins away from qualifying for a bowl game, which would be a major accomplishment for Hugh Freeze in his first season as the Ole Miss coach.

Earning a bowl trip would be even more impressive when you consider how many younger players the Rebels are playing. They’re off next week before traveling to Little Rock to face Arkansas on Oct. 27.

There wasn’t any hangover for Ole Miss after last week’s bitter 30-27 loss to Texas A&M when the Rebels couldn’t hold onto a fourth-quarter lead.

They never let it get to that point Saturday and controlled the second half with big plays on offense and defense.

Jeff Scott, who finished with 207 yards of total offense, had a 56-yard touchdown reception where he rolled over an Auburn defender who was on the ground, stayed on his feet and had the presence to keep running, making it a 14-point Ole Miss lead.

Linebacker Mike Marry then got into the act by intercepting Auburn quarterback Clint Moseley and returning it 38 yards to set up Ole Miss’ final touchdown.

While Ole Miss is thinking bowl game, Auburn (1-5, 0-4) is faced with trying to avoid a losing season. The Tigers are 0-4 in the SEC for the first time since 1980 and have lost seven of their past eight conference games going back to last season.

Auburn’s offense, which has struggled all season, showed some life in the first half. Moseley, making his first start of the season, hit his first nine passes, but was 2-of-9 after that.

The Tigers were held to 213 yards in total offense, and only 60 of those came after the half.

Put simply, it’s hard to believe this is a program that won the national championship two years ago.
