Opening camp: Kentucky Wildcats

Schedule: The Wildcats begin practice at 3:30 p.m. ET on Monday, Aug. 5. The Wildcats will host their fan day on Aug. 9 and have yet to set a date in which players will wear full pads.

On the mend: Kentucky will be without running back Josh Clemons for the second straight season after Clemons underwent surgery to repair an Achilles tendon injury. Safety Ashely Lowery was cleared to return to working out with teammates in July after his May 4 car accident in which he was thrown from his vehicle. Lowery was later cited for driving under the influence.

Key battle: First-year coach Mark Stoops enters his first fall with the Wildcats with a three-headed quarterback battle on his hands. Though Maxwell Smith is the veteran and was the starter before injuries cut his 2012 season short, sophomore Jalen Whitlow appeared to leave spring with the edge at the position. He and classmate Patrick Towles played during Smith's absence last fall and will continue to push for the starting spot during camp.

Of note: The Wildcats owned one of the country's youngest and most inexperienced teams in 2012. Kentucky played 14 true freshmen, ranking sixth nationally. A total of 27 freshmen played, including redshirt freshmen, which ranked fourth in the country.

Predicted order of finish at media days: Picked to finish seventh in the SEC East at SEC media days.

They said it: "I think the educated fan knows where we're at as a program, knows we have a lot of work to do. But the flipside of that is I want the excitement. I want them there. I want them to support our players that we have on our team right now. I want them at all of our home games." -- coach Mark Stoops
