Felton and his staff at Georgia honored

The guys and gals behind the scenes deserve some love, too.

That said, longtime Georgia associate athletic director Claude Felton and his entire sports communications staff deserve a round of applause for the job they do promoting the Bulldogs.

Felton and his staff were recently recognized by the Football Writers Association of America in its inaugural “Super 11” field of sports information departments deemed the best among the FBS schools during the 2009 season.

In alphabetical order, the 11 schools honored were Buffalo, Clemson, East Carolina, Georgia, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, San Jose State, Southern California, Texas and Utah.

“There are clearly many outstanding sports information departments across the country,” said Tim Griffin, 2010 FWAA president and chairman of the Super 11 committee. “But our group felt there was a smattering of schools that merited commendation because of their exemplary work above and beyond the call of duty. This is our first collection in what will be an ongoing process.”

Indeed, I can’t imagine a more effective and classier ambassador for the University of Georgia than Felton, who’s served as the Bulldogs’ sports communications director since 1979.
