Jay-Z Does Indeed Make A Yankee Hat More Famous Than A Yankee Can

"You seriously want to know why I'm selling Yankees apparel, not Nets?"

Everyone knows Jay-Z and the New York Yankees go together like lamb and tuna fish (or maybe spaghetti and meatballs – are you more comfortable with that analogy?). Anyone who’s ever heard “Empire State of Mind” or seen HOVA hanging with A-Rod on a Yankees World Series parade float knows that much. But today, we’re getting firm, for sale proof of their alliance in the form of Jay-Z branded New York Yankee hats, t-shirts and hoodies.

The Stadium will be the exclusive seller of the apparel (don’t worry, ladies, the collection has items for both men and women!), which was created to commemorate Jay-Z’s “The Blueprint 3” concert at Yankee Stadium, the first official concert at the Yankees’ new digs. The line will be for sale starting today till the concert is over. Jay-Z, along with Eminem, will be playing two dates in New York, Sept. 13 and 14.

Which is just in time. Because one can only wear this Jay-Z “Now I live on billboards” shirt so many times before someone calls you out for not, in fact, living on a billboard. Unless you’re this guy. Then you can wear it to your heart’s delight. You know, because you’re actually on a billboard.

It’s another brilliant marketing move from the rap mogul slash owner of the 40/40 Club slash part owner of the New Jersey Nets slash creator of Rocawear. In fact, we have to think this is only the beginning for Mr. Carter and the Yankees. Sure, Majestic supplies the official MLB uniforms, but that shouldn’t stop Jay-Z’s Rocawear from being, say, the official fragrance of the Yankees. And yes, Jeter has been known to walk up to the plate to Jay-Z songs time and again, but there are eight other spots in that batting order, folks. How soon before we hear mandatory Jay-Z at-bat music? Something tells us “Heartbreaker,” “Crazy in Love,” and “Umbrella” are all still up for grabs.
