EARTH CITY, Mo. -- Already missing some key players at multiple positions, the St. Louis Rams haven't exactly gotten better injury news as the season trudges toward its end.
In Sunday's 27-3 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, the Rams lost cornerback Janoris Jenkins and tight end Lance Kendricks to concussions. Jenkins actually went through the in-game protocol twice, clearing the first test and returning before taking another hit from a teammate that rendered him unable to come back into the game. Kendricks left and did not return after suffering his.
Both Kendricks and Jenkins are now in the concussion protocol and will be monitored this week before they're able to return to the field.
"They’re doing fine," coach Jeff Fisher said. "They’re ahead of schedule, according to the doctors."
The Rams are again going with a day off on Tuesday, which means they'll practice Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. When they do get back on the practice field, Jenkins and Kendricks won't be the only Rams worth looking for.
Safety T.J. McDonald, who had the nasty collision with Jenkins that forced the cornerback to have his first concussion inspection, apparently suffered a shoulder injury.
"We have some concern about T.J.," Fisher said. "We’re doing tests on the shoulder and we’ll see where that goes once we get the results back."
Those were the only new additions to the injury report from Sunday's game, at least the only ones Fisher volunteered before the Rams are required to submit a report Wednesday.
But there are still some lingering issues that must be addressed. At the top of the leftover injury problems is end Robert Quinn and his back ailment. Quinn has been battling it since the bye week and again didn't play last week.
The Rams now must consider whether it's worth pushing Quinn to play and risking further injury.
"Rob Quinn is again questionable," Fisher said. "He’s making progress but we’re going to do some further tests with Rob."
At kicker, the Rams have both Zack Hocker (thigh) and Greg Zuerlein (groin) dealing with problems. Hocker is set for an MRI on his thigh but there's some hope that Zuerlein could return this week.
"I am optimistic that Greg has a chance to come back and kick Wednesday and then kick Friday and then we’ll see where he is," Fisher said. "That’s where we’re at.”
Finally, in addition to Jenkins, the Rams are still hoping to get cornerback Trumaine Johnson back from a thigh injury. He's been inactive the past two weeks because of it and Jenkins' concussion could create a need for the Rams to find help at the position this week.
“Tru had a good day today in the training room," Fisher said. "We’re hopeful that he’ll come back. If not, we’re looking at that. We’ll have those discussions. There’s a potential for some roster moves because of injury. We’re just going to look at that here in the next day or so.”
