LOS ANGELES -- Joe Montana's Hall of Fame career was all but over by the time Jared Goff was born on Oct. 14, 1994, in Novato, Calif. But Montana's status as Bay Area legend was so strong that Goff might as well have watched Montana's career unfold in person. It was the impetus for Goff to choose No. 16 for his jersey number as a kid and the reason he still wore it in college.
Ask Goff about his preference for the number and he offers a simple explanation of when he started wearing it and why.
“Since I was seven years old, and because of Joe Montana,” Goff said.
On Wednesday night, the Los Angeles Rams announced the jersey numbers for their entire six-man draft class and, as luck would have it, No. 16 was readily available for Goff.
Here's a look at the numbers the drafted rookies will wear:
QB Jared Goff: No. 16
TE Tyler Higbee: No. 89
WR Pharoh Cooper: No. 10
TE Temarrick Hemingway: No. 84
LB Josh Forrest: No. 59
WR Michael Thomas: No. 13
