We continue our list of the top 15 Buccaneers with No. 14:
Johnthan Banks, cornerback
What he did in 2013: A second-round draft pick a year ago, Banks had an up-and-down rookie season. His inexperience was exploited at times. But at other times he showed potential. Banks finished the season with 55 tackles and three interceptions while starting all 16 games.
Why he’s No. 14 in 2014: I’m looking for Banks to be one of the most improved players on the roster. He should be a much better fit in the Tampa 2 scheme the Bucs will be using this year. At 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, Banks likely will be matched against bigger receivers. He’ll have a chance to succeed because he’ll get help from the safeties. Banks – and the entire secondary – also should be helped by an improved pass rush.
