TAMPA, Fla. -- Aside from resurrecting a career that didn’t go well in San Diego, defensive end Larry English has plenty of other incentives to play well in Tampa Bay.
English, a first-round pick by the Chargers in 2009, signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this week. His contract contains a base salary of $730,000. But that number could escalate significantly.
English’s contract contains a clause that would earn him an extra $120,000 if he’s on the 46-man active roster for 10 or more games.
Cornerback Crezdon Butler also signed this week, but his deal does not include any incentives. Butler is schedule to earn $607,059 in base salary. Defensive end Jacquies Smith was claimed off waivers from Buffalo earlier this week and the Bucs assumed his $420,000 base salary.
The Bucs currently are $6.8 million under this year’s salary cap.
