NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Dick LeBeau has always regarded the football teams he’s helped coach as family, and for years he’s brought a family Christmas tradition to work.
Thursday in a team meeting, interim Tennessee Titans coach Mike Mularkey introduced assistant head coach/defense LeBeau, and he read “Twas the Night Before Christmas” to the team.
“I just said, ‘You’re about to hear something that’s a treat and memorable and only a few select people have had a chance to hear this poem [read] by Dick LeBeau,’” Mularkey said. “... It’s very moving, very moving. It gets better every time I hear it.
“It was cool,” LeBeau said. “You’ll have to ask them [how they liked it]. I had a ball.”
Outside linebacker Bran Orakpo said he now considers the reading by the grandfatherly Pro Football Hall of Famer as a notable moment in his football life.
“It was special, very special,” Orakpo said. “I’ve been hearing about it and I was glad I got to experience that once in my life.”
