Here are four trades I'd like to see between now and the start of spring training.

1. St. Louis Cardinals and Colorado Rockies

The Trade: Cardinals get outfielder Carlos Gonzalez; Rockies get outfielder Stephen Piscotty and left-handed starter Marco Gonzales.

The Cardinals finished 11th in the National League last year in runs scored, home runs and stolen bases and have since lost Jason Heyward to free agency and Yadier Molina is coming back from thumb surgery and is expected to miss most of the spring. Although they have a plethora of talented to young outfielders to choose from to replace Heyward, none of them have the potential to hit 40 home runs this year as Gonzalez did last year for the Rockies, where he slashed .271/.325/.540 with 25 doubles, 40 home runs and 97 runs batted in. Gonzalez, 30, is controllable for two more years at a total of $37 million.

In exchange, the Cardinals would send the Rockies Piscotty, who made an impressive debut with St. Louis last season, batting .305/.359/.494 with 15 doubles seven home runs and 39 RBIs in 63 games. Piscotty is 24 years old and is controllable through at least 2020. He would give the Rockies a much needed right-handed outfield bat and a player with high intelligence and character. Marco Gonzales, 23, was the Cardinals' first-round pick in the 2013 draft, and when healthy projects to be a solid No. 3 or No. 4 starter. He's not arbitration eligible until 2019. This would be a steep price to pay for the Cardinals, but a necessary trade if they want to hold off the Cubs and Pirates again in 2016.
