It has been a four-headed monster (Mark Warkentein, Jeff Weltman, Bret Bearup, and David Fredman) for some time. Inside Hoops reports that era is over, with Weltman and Fredman sent packing:
The Denver Nuggets today announced the restructuring of their basketball operations department. The team will name Mark Warkentien Vice President of Basketball Operations, Rex Chapman Vice President of Player Personnel and Bret Bearup Advisor to the Nuggets. The team will also promote Masai Ujiri to Director of International Scouting.
Assistant General Managers Jeff Weltman and David Fredman will no longer be employed by the Nuggets.
Thanks to Ben for the heads up.
UPDATE: Turns out that headline was more than a little misleading. First of all, any idiot who reads closely might have noticed that Warkentein and Chapman are both now vice presidents, who will essentially share duties. But the bigger piece of news is that a Nuggets source with knowledge of the arrangement tells me Warkentien and Chapman will report to Bret Bearup and owner Stan Kroenke.
Last night I said Warkentein had the top job, but today it seems more like he's in a tie for third.
