Washington Redskins wake-up call

ASHBURN, Va., -- The Washington Redskins have Tuesday off -- and, before anyone asks, it’s mandatory per the collective bargaining agreement -- but will return to work Wednesday. Here are three areas of interest:

  1. Receiver Pierre Garcon. Garcon was targeted nine times, but only caught three passes Sunday and now has 49 receptions for the season, a big drop from his 113 of a year ago. “We have to try to get him the ball in space where he can run because his whole dynamic is running with the ball in his hands after the catch," Washington coach Jay Gruden said. "We tried to get him some shallow crosses to him in the game and we just didn’t get them thrown to him. We’re trying to get him more involved in the offense but for whatever reason we’re not getting that done.”

  2. General manager Bruce Allen. OK, I wrote this in my Second Thoughts column, but I figure you might have missed it, but many requests have been made to interview him -- by myself and others. We’ve all been told he won’t talk during the season. So if you want to know what anyone above the head coach thinks about the season, you’ll have to wait.

  3. On the blog. I’ll take a look at quarterback Colt McCoy's outing against Indianapolis to see how he fared. I’ll also take a statistical look at some aspects of the Redskins. There will be a quick post, too, on what Gruden wants to see from the offense.
