Redskins need consistent run game during final practice with Texans

RICHMOND, Va. -- The Washington Redskins will conduct one more practice with the Houston Texans at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (ESPN analysts Louis Riddick and Ryan Clark will be on hand for live look-ins during the practice and my Texans colleague Tania Ganguli and I will be on the air throughout the day). Here are three areas of interest for your wake-up call:

Health. The Redskins say cornerback David Amerson might be able to work Saturday, which would be a welcomed boost to the secondary. They played without their top four cornerbacks Friday; fortunately for them the Texans do not have a proficient passing attack. The Redskins just need to get a few healthy bodies in the secondary, and Jay Gruden said there’s a chance Amerson will be available.

The run game. Last year vs. New England the Redskins and Patriots had a walk-through on their final day together, mainly because they were playing a preseason game the next day. Not so this time, as they'll be in full pads Saturday. That’s good because the run game needs more work, especially as the Redskins shuffle their line around. It's tough to find a rhythm, but I like what they're doing with this group as far as creating competition. If you think Morgan Moses has a shot to start at right tackle, then put him in vs. legitimate starters. These few days are better than a fifth preseason game because of how many snaps Moses has taken. Whether or not he sticks with the starters, I don't know. But I do know the coaches can make a strong evaluation after these three days.

Quarterback Robert Griffin III. He's had one mixed day followed by a pretty good day. Finish it with a strong day and the Redskins would be thrilled. The reality is that all the quarterbacks have had plenty of mixed days this camp. Griffin has taken a couple chances with the ball; they still would like to see him getting the ball out on time a little better. But overall he still looks better than a year ago at this time. I’ve talked to people visiting in camp who say he looks comfortable and relaxed. Now, it's just a matter of him showing good mechanics during games. Another good day would help.
