The Washington Redskins re-signed eight of their 16 unrestricted free agents -- and still might bring back one more.
They might not be done bringing back other players they cut, either, as a source says they remain interested in defensive end Jason Hatcher and safety Dashon Goldson, both of whom were released before free agency but who remain unsigned.
Here’s a look at what’s transpired with the Redskins’ 16 unrestricted free agents:
QB Kirk Cousins: The Redskins used their franchise tag on him. A long-term deal will continue to be discussed, but unless the Redskins are willing to increase their offer by approximately $4 million per year, then it’s hard to imagine an agreement being reached.
QB Colt McCoy: Signed a three-year deal with the Redskins that can be voided after the second year (based on play time). The Redskins like him as their primary backup to Cousins.
LB Junior Galette: The Redskins gave him a one-year incentive-laden prove-it deal. If he indeed proves it, Galette will be a lot more expensive next season.
DL Kedric Golston: Signed a one-year deal with the Redskins that included no signing bonus so he’ll have to make the roster to get paid.
LB Mason Foster: The Redskins signed him to a two-year deal; he’ll compete for a starting linebacker position with Perry Riley. The Redskins have no plans to get rid of Riley. They felt both players performed well alongside Will Compton.
TE Logan Paulsen: The Redskins gave him a one-year deal to return after missing last season with a sprained toe. He’ll still have to win a roster spot, though the Redskins could go with four tight ends this season.
CB Will Blackmon: The Redskins signed him to a two-year deal; he’ll help them at corner on the outside or in the slot and also will play some safety.
OL Josh LeRibeus: He re-signed with Washington on a one-year deal. He’s not a lock to make the roster.
FB Darrel Young: Still unsigned. It’s real tough for a player who turns 29 Friday and plays a position that not every team wants to use anymore. The Redskins, for example, might opt to keep four tight ends rather than three plus a fullback. Niles Paul will handle the spot when necessary – Young only played 107 snaps last season.
RB Pierre Thomas: Still unsigned. The Redskins remain interested in him, but a lot of it depends on what they do in the draft at this position. They liked his professionalism (and production) from when he joined them in December.
DE Frank Kearse: Signed a one-year deal with New England.
NT Terrance Knighton: Signed a one-year deal with New England. The Redskins did make him an offer last week, but it was loaded with incentives (the Patriots offered more). When free agency started, the Redskins did not plan to pursue Knighton. He said he has lost 30 pounds.
CB Cary Williams: Still unsigned.
TE Alex Smith: Still unsigned.
