Fred Taylor will not play vs. Miami

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- New England Patriots running back Fred Taylor will not play in Monday night's game against the Miami Dolphins, as the Patriots listed him as "out" on the injury report Saturday.

Taylor missed his fourth straight practice Saturday with a toe injury.

Taylor was knocked out of last Sunday's win over the Bills in the third quarter after back-to-back carries.

His injury led the Patriots to sign running back Thomas Clayton off the Browns' practice squad Thursday, and BenJarvus Green-Ellis is projected to take Taylor's place Monday night as the team's No. 1 option at running back.

"We'll see," Belichick answered Friday when asked if he were preparing to be without Taylor for a stretch of time. "We'll kind of take it day to day. I think he's doing better. We'll see how quickly it turns around."

Clayton, who spent the preseason with the Patriots before being released Sept. 4, will have to count against the Patriots' 53-man roster limit for at least the next three weeks because he was signed off of another team's practice squad.

"[Clayton] missed a little bit of time in camp. When he was out there, I thought he did some good things," Belichick said Friday. "With a little missed time in practice, I think that slowed him down a bit. We were impressed with his skills and thought in the preseason games when he had an opportunity, he showed up and did some good things."
