Rob Gronkowski placed on IR

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots have placed tight end Rob Gronkowski on injured reserve, according to the team's Thursday injury report.

Gronkowski broke his forearm in Sunday's win over the Houston Texans and underwent surgery this week. Moving Gronkowski to injured reserve officially ends his chances of returning this postseason.

The transaction also opens a spot on the 53-man roster, which the Patriots will be required to fill by 4 p.m. ET on Saturday.
