BOSTON -- The Boston Bruins will hold a press conference on Wednesday to announce Cam Neely has been named team president, a source told ESPN.com.
The Bruins announced Tuesday that they scheduled a "major announcement" for Wednesday.
The former Bruins forward and Hall of Famer has served as the organization's vice president and alternate governor for the past two years. Neely has worked closely with general manager Peter Chiarelli and the hockey operations staff. He has also worked with executive vice president Charlie Jacobs on the club's business operations.
No. 8 has always been known around Boston as a tenacious and fierce competitor. He has said in the past he loves being a part of the Bruins organization in a front-office capacity and enjoys working with the young players and developing talent.
After being selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the first round of the 1983 draft, he played three seasons in Vancouver before he was traded to Boston in June 1986. He played 10 seasons for the Bruins, helping Boston to the Stanley Cup finals twice, and retired after the 1995-96 season. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2005.
