Registration closes for the 2016 Boston Marathon at 30,000 entrants

BOSTON -- The mad dash to get into next year's Boston Marathon is over.

Organizers say registration for the April 18 race closed at 5 p.m. Wednesday after the field limit of 30,000 entrants was reached.

Registration had opened Sept. 14, with the fastest runners getting first dibs on a bib.

The Boston Athletic Association, which organizes the event, says not all qualifiers who submitted an entry for the 120th running of the marathon will be accepted.
