The Chicago Cubs traded Aaron Miles and Jake Fox to the Oakland A's for right-handed pitcher Jeff Gray and minor-leaguers Ronny Morla and Matt Spencer, according to ESPNChicago.com reporter Bruce Levine.
The Cubs will absorb $1 million of the $2.7 million owed to Miles.
Gray pitched in five games for the A's in 2008 and 24 games last season, when he had a 3.76 ERA.
"He doesn't have experience in the eighth or ninth innings," Hendry said in a conference call with the media. "But he throws the ball very hard and he throws a lot of strikes.
"Our scouts felt he throws a lot like [Angel] Guzman, a hard-throwing type guy on the verge of getting better. It's up to him to compete for a job. If not, he's got an option [to be sent to the minors without becoming available to other teams] left."
Fox was a versatile player who hit .259 with 11 home runs and 44 RBI in 2009.
Miles was a disappointment for the Cubs last season, hitting just .185 in 74 games.
Morla is a right-handed pitcher while Spencer is a left-handed hitting outfielder.
