Sox bristle at Cubs' ticket surcharge

Chicago White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf told an Arizona business journal that the team objects to a plan to institute a surcharge on all Cactus League tickets to help fund the Cubs' proposed $84 million spring training complex in Mesa, Ariz.

According to the Phoenix Business Journal, the Arizona Diamondbacks also are against the surcharge.

Cubs owner Tom Ricketts could not be reached for comment on the matter, and a Cubs spokesman said the club would not comment on the situation.

Diamondbacks president Derrick Hall told the Arizona Republic: "The other 13 teams in the Cactus League
feel the same way."

The ticket surcharge is part of a bill that will be introduced Monday to the Arizona Legislature. The bill is intended to raise money to pay off bonds issued by the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority to build the complex for the Cubs and prevent them leaving for a site in Florida.
