Source: White Sox to sign Jesse Crain

The Chicago White Sox have agreed in principal pending a physical to a three-year contract with right-handed pitcher Jesse Crain, a major league source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPNChicago.com.

The deal is expected to be worth $13 million over three years, another major league source said.

Crain, one of the top setup men in the game in 2010, posted a 3.04 ERA and a 1-1 record in 71 appearance this past season.

Crain will most likely go into the role that was left open after reliever J.J. Putz signed a three-year contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks during baseball's winter meetings.

The White Sox continue to surprise people with their offseason moves. One White Sox source said that the team's payroll was $119 million before the Crain move. That number is already $12 million higher than any payroll in team history.
