Twitter flap upsets White Sox GM

Chicago White Sox general manager Ken Williams said Oney Guillen's recent shots at Bobby Jenks via Twitter may have compromised the integrity of the White Sox clubhouse, because it publicized apparent private communication between Jenks and White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen.

"It is an issue I trust Ozzie to manage as there are obvious peripheral issues that are in direct conflict to what we believe and could directly compromise the integrity of clubhouse privacy, privacy that is vital to a team's unity and success," Williams wrote to the Chicago Tribune via e-mail.

Williams also told the Trib that Jenks, who signed with the Boston Red Sox after spending his first six seasons in Chicago, owes Ozzie Guillen an apology for saying he's looking forward to playing "for a manager who knows how to run a bullpen.'' Williams said the White Sox supported Jenks throughout his career in Chicago.

Oney Guillen took it a step further when he tweeted that Jenks is a "punk," and that Jenks should: "be a man and tell the manager or the coaching staff how u feel or the organization when u were with the sox not when u leave." Oney Guillen also tweeted that Jenks "cried in the managers office bc u have problems now u go and talk bad about the sox after they protected u for 7 years ungrateful."

Williams and Ozzie Guillen suffered through a tumultuous 2010 season. Both men said the personal rift didn't affect their professional relationship, but team captain Paul Konerko -- who re-signed with the White Sox -- recently told "The Afternoon Saloon" on ESPN 1000 that highly publicized disputes can be a distraction, and it takes a team's total concentration to win a division.

Oney Guillen told ESPN 1000's "Waddle & Silvy Show" on Wednesday that the recent Twitter flap won't affect the team in 2011, and that no current White Sox players need to fear his Twitter wrath.

Efforts to reach Ozzie Guillen on Thursday were unsuccessful.
