Geovany Soto, Cubs agree

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs and catcher Geovany Soto have agreed to a one-year, $3 million contract.

By signing the contract, the sides avoid arbitration. Soto was arbitration-eligible for the first time. He made $575,000 in 2010.

Soto hit .280 with 17 home runs and 53 RBIs last season.

That leaves the Cubs with Carlos Marmol, Sean Marshall and Tom Gorzelanny as arbitration-eligible players.
