CINCINNATI -- Chicago Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez said Tuesday that he doesn't think he would waive his no-trade clause, despite the team's struggles this season.
Ramirez is in the final year of a five-year, $75 million contract, and the Cubs have a $15 million option for 2012. The team also has a $2 million buyout option.
"At this point, no, I wouldn't accept a trade," Ramirez said before the Cubs lost to the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday. "I've been traded before in the middle of the season, and it's too hard. It's hard on the players, it's hard on the family.
"I've committed to the Cubs and the Cubs committed to me. That's why you have these types of contracts. At this point I'm not really interested in being traded, and I don't think I will [waive the no-trade clause]. I took less money to stay here in Chicago for five years, and I plan to honor my five-year commitment."
Ramirez's agent Paul Kinzer said he hasn't been approached about a deal.
"Neither myself nor Aramis has been approached by anyone with the Cubs about a trade," Kinzer said.
The Cubs traded Derrek Lee last season after the first baseman originally refused to waive his no-trade clause. He finally agreed to a deal to the Atlanta Braves.
"You never know, but I don't think I'll change my mind," Ramirez said. "It's too tough when you have family and kids here to try to move them elsewhere. If I were by myself it might be OK, but I have my wife and kids."
