Kerry Wood to throw simulated game

CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs right-handed pitcher Kerry Wood, who is eligible to come off the disabled list, will test the blister on his right index finger with a simulated game on Wednesday.

Wood, who was placed on the DL retroactive to June 9, threw a 35-pitch bullpen session on Monday.

"It's getting a lot better," Wood told ESPNChicago.com on Tuesday. "The skin around the finger is better. The nail is stronger. It's looking a lot better to me."

The Cubs have had to piece together their bullpen in Wood's absence with Jeff Samardzija and rookie Chris Carpenter.
