Chicago Bulls free-agent guard John Lucas III, who has been contacted by the Miami Heat and others, said Monday the Bulls' decision to bring back Kirk Hinrich has forced him to evaluate his future in Chicago.
"(Miami is) one of the teams that's interested in me," Lucas said on "The Carmen, Jurko & Harry Show" on ESPN 1000. "I'm just taking time looking at everything and what's going to be the best situation for me.
"I want to go somewhere where I can contribute and go in there and just basically play and bring something to the team."
Hinrich verbally committed to the Bulls on Sunday. Free agents can begin to sign contracts on Saturday.
"With everything that's going on now and I've heard they re-signed Kirk, which is a good move for them, so it kind of puts a little bit ... I'll sit down with my team and see what happens on that end," Lucas said. "(Miami) is a team that's reaching out to contact me, showing interest. It's coming from management. It's something going back and forth with my agent and other teams, too. They're not the only team. We have a couple other teams, too.
"It's just basically talking and seeing what would be the best fit."
Lucas averaged 14.8 minutes last season for the Bulls as Derrick Rose battled an assortment of injuries. Lucas averaged 7.5 points, but he has a history with the Heat from last season.
On Jan. 29 he was posterized by LeBron James who took an alley-oop pass and jumped over Lucas. The Heat went on to win that game.
Lucas' best game of the year , though, may have been a 24-point performance in a March 14 win over the Heat, when he hit a key shot over James late and then had words for the Heat star.
When the teams met in Miami on April 19, a James screen knocked Lucas to the court. Players gathered as James and Lucas were called for technicals.
Lucas remembered that incident during the playoffs when James was knocked down by a Tyson Chandler screen and rolled around holding his neck. Lucas implied that there might have been some embellishing on James' part.
"I thought he threw his left shoulder into me a little bit, and then I look up and Tyson Chandler set a clean screen on him, and he took it like he just got shot," Lucas said at the time on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "You got to get back up.
"All that like your neck is hurt, that isn't cool."
Lucas said Bulls fans are giving him a hard time on Twitter now that he may sign with the Heat.
