NIU to name new coach Monday

Northern Illinois will name its new football coach at 2 p.m. CT at NIU Convocation Center on Monday, the school announced late Sunday night.

Former coach Jerry Kill left the program on Dec. 5 to become the head coach at Minnesota. Linebackers coach Tom Matukewicz was named the Huskies' interim coach last week and has been leading the team's practices in preparation to face Fresno State in the uDrove Humanitarian Bowl on Dec. 18.

Rutgers wide receivers coach P.J. Fleck, a former Northern Illinois player and coach; Notre Dame defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator Chuck Martin; Wisconsin defensive coordinator Dave Doeren; and Syracuse defensive coordinator Scott Shafer, another former Huskies coach, have been among the names rumored to be considered for the position.
