Bears sign McClover, waive Smith

The Chicago Bears on Tuesday signed linebacker Darrell McClover to a one-year contract and released cornerback DeAngelo Smith, the team announced in a news release.

The terms of the McClover deal were not disclosed.

McClover has appeared in 28 career games with the Bears from 2006-2008, registering 38 tackles on special teams and two blocked punts. McClover, who was selected in the seventh round of the 2004 NFL draft by the New York Jets, has appeared in a total of 38 games over his career and recorded 61 special teams stops.

Smith was inactive for the Bears the last two games after being claimed off waivers from Cleveland in Week 2. The 23-year-old Smith played his college ball at Cincinnati.
