Source: Beekman to start for Bears

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears will start Josh Beekman at left guard in place of Frank Omiyale Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, according to a source familiar with the situation.

On the Bears' Web site, general manager Jerry Angelo implied that a change may be forthcoming.

"I don't want to go too far into this, but certainly there are things that need to be corrected and things that we need to do better," Angelo said. "Do we need to look at some personnel? Yeah, we do.

"There's some of that going on as you'll see Sunday. But we can't overreact. I feel very confident that Lovie [Smith] and his staff see that and will get the wrongs righted. We're going to focus on what we can control, and that's Sunday's game against Cleveland."

Quarterback Jay Cutler was asked Wednesday if the problems in protection were a result of hanging onto the ball too long, or the offensive line not giving the quarterback time to throw.

"It's both, there are certain times we are asking those guys to protect me [because] we are going to take some shots down the field, certain times I got to get the ball out faster," Cutler said. "It's just going to take a little more work during practice."

Left tackle Orlando Pace appears to have kept his starting job, although Kevin Shaffer remains a viable option moving forward.
