Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte will be a game-time decision to play against the Dallas Cowboys on "Monday Night Football," coach Lovie Smith said Monday morning.
"It's a game-time decision for Matt. He's made a lot of progress," Smith said on WBBM-AM 780. "We'll get over to the stadium, see how he does then and decide."
A league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that Forte is expected to play, stating that a final decision will be made after the five-year veteran tests his injured ankle during pregame warmups.
Forte left a Sept. 13 loss to the Green Bay Packers with a sprained ankle and then missed last week's victory over the St. Louis Rams. He participated in Saturday's workout after being limited in practice the previous three days.
If Forte can't play, Michael Bush, who took a hit to the shoulder against the Rams, is expected to start in his place.
Receiver Earl Bennett, who has been nursing a hand injury for the past two weeks, is questionable for Monday night. He has three catches for 32 yards in the past two games after posting three for 50 yards against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1.
Smith said Saturday that rookie fullback Evan Rodriguez will not play due to a knee injury. Rodriguez hurt the knee on the opening kickoff against the Rams, returned to action for five plays, then was officially ruled out for the rest of the game.
