Hawks' Andrew Shaw out for Game 4

CHICAGO -- Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw will not play against the Minnesota Wild in Game 4 of the teams' Western Conference second-round series Friday due to a lower-body injury, Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said Thursday.

Shaw will miss a third consecutive game because of the injury. Quenneville did not have a definitive answer on whether Shaw would return during the series.

Quenneville had previously said Shaw would likely to return for Game 3, but Shaw was unable to play. Quenneville said Thursday that Shaw's eagerness to get back on the ice may have led to some early optimism on his return date.

"Every guy is different," Quenneville said following a practice at the United Center. "He's a very competitive guy. He would have done anything he could to play. We got to tame him a little bit in that regard, so maybe that was what we were talking about at the time."

Shaw was injured after taking a hit from Wild defenseman Clayton Stoner during the first period of Game 1 on May 2. Shaw was hit into the boards and fell to the ice. He limped off, went to the dressing room and did not return.

Shaw has two goals, two assists, a plus-minus rating of zero and has averaged 15:54 of ice time in seven playoff games. He had 20 goals, 19 assists and a plus-12 rating in 80 regular-season games.

The Blackhawks lead the series 2-1.
