Evans verbally commits to St. Louis

Neuqua Valley 6-foot-6 forward Dwayne Evans, one of the state's top uncommitted seniors, took himself off the board on Wednesday as he made a verbal commitment to Saint Louis.

The commitment comes on the heels of an in-house visit by Billikens coach Rick Majerus on Tuesday.

Evans chose Saint Louis over Drake, Illinois State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Kent State, Toledo and Western Michigan. He was scheduled to make an official visit to Northwestern this weekend.

In Evans, the Billikens are receiving a versatile forward.

"I try to stay away from positions with him," said Illinois Warriors coach Larry Butler, Evans' club coach. "He can rebound, block shots, can run the floor, [and] has a great attitude. He has a great upside. He's a combo. He's all-around. He's very efficient. He can score."

Evans averaged about 14 points and 10 rebounds as a junior. Neuqua Valley is expected to be one of the state's top teams this season.
