Walter Dukes led Seton Hall to a 31-2 record and the NIT championship in 1953. The Pirates defeated St. John's 58-46 in the NIT final.
Seton Hall was 56-5 in Dukes' two varsity seasons.
Dukes' freshman team at Seton Hall went 39-1 in 1950-51. (Freshmen were ineligible for varsity teams.)
He set the NCAA's single-season rebounding record with 734 in 1952-53.
Dukes averaged 23.5 points during his two varsity seasons at Seton Hall.
He was drafted eighth by the New York Knicks in the 1953 NBA Draft, but signed with the Harlem Globetrotters.
He eventually joined the Knicks in 1955.
The Pistons obtained Dukes in a September 1957 trade that sent Larry Foust to the then Minneapolis Lakers.
Dukes led the Pistons in personal fouls and disqualifications in the first five of his six years in Detroit.
He led the league in fouls in his first two seasons as a Piston (1957-58 - 311, 1958-59 - 332).
Dukes was an All-Star in 1960-61.
He ranks fourth on the Pistons' career list with 4,986 rebounds.
