George took Scott Burrell's length-of-the-court pass and swished a 15-foot jumper for the win.

Jim Valvano's North Carolina State Wolfpack upset No. 1 Houston, 54-52, to win the national title. Lorenzo Charles scored the winning basket with one second remaining after grabbing teammate Dereck Whittenburg's desperation long-range heave and stuffing it home. Houston center Akeem Olajuwon was named the tournament's outstanding player, making him the 12th member of a losing team to receive the honor in 45 years.

1981 East Regional Sweet 16
BYU vs Notre Dame

All-America Danny Ainge, held in check for most of the evening, drove the length of the court for a layup with only two seconds left to give Brigham Young a 51-50 victory over Notre Dame.

Christian Laettner took an inbounds pass with 2.6 seconds left and converted a leaning 15-foot jumper as the overtime buzzer sounded giving Duke a sensational 79-78 win, knocking off top-seeded UConn. Laettner finished with 23 points and Duke's Alaa Abdelnaby had 27 points and 14 rebounds. Trailing 69-64, the Blue Devils, who had lapsed into a 10-minute, 11-second slump from the field, rallied for a 71-69 lead when Phil Henderson (21 points) stroked a 3-point dagger with 53 seconds left. Nadav Henefeld and John Gwynn scored 15 each for Connecticut.

1983 Final Four
Houston vs Louisville
7-9 p.m.

Hakeem Olajuwon led the Cougars with five dunks, including four in the last five minutes, to highlight his 21-point, 22-rebound, eight blocked shots effort in Houston's 94-81 victory over Louisville. Olajuwon got 15 rebounds in the second half; Louisville had 14. Houston, as a team, made 13 dunks. Clyde Drexler added 21 points on 10-of-15 shooting, and had seven rebounds, six assists and four dunks.

1992 East Regional Elite Eight
Kentucky vs Duke
9-11 p.m.

Once again Christian Laettner came through for the Blue Devils. Kentucky point guard Sean Woods hit a running one-hander in the lane with 2.5 seconds left in overtime to give the Wildcats a 103-102 lead. Then, after a Duke timeout with 2.1 to go, it came down to Blue Devils forward Grant Hill hurling a pass far down the court, Laettner collecting it with his back to the basket, turning calmly to his left and going up to bury his jumper over Kentucky's Deron Feldhouse and John Pelphrey. Laettner ended his afternoon 10 of 10 from the field and 10 of 10 from the line for 31 points in a 104-103 Duke triumph.
