  • Wayne Gretzky became the first player to score four goals in an All-Star game. He tallied all four goals in a span of 12:58 in the third period of the 1983 contest. Gretzky, who led the Campbell Conference to a 9-3 win over the Wales, won his first of three MVP All-Star honors.

  • Gretzky set the standard and others followed. Mario Lemieux (1990), Vincent Damphousse (1991) and Mike Gartner (1993) have all scored four goals in an All-Star game. Only Gretzky has managed to score four goals in one period. Lemieux, Damphousse and Gartner each scored three goals in one period.

  • Gordie Howe holds the record most All-Star games played with 23. Howe, who was 51, made his last All-Star appearance in 1980. He had 10 goals and nine assists as an All-Star.

  • Ray Bourque will move into second place behind Howe in All-Star games played. The defenseman will be making his 19th straight appearance. He has four goals and 13 assists as an All-Star. Bourque was tied with Wayne Gretzky, who played in 18 All-Star games.

  • Gretzky holds the record for most career goals in All-Star competition with 13. Mario Lemieux, who returned to the ice this season, is second with 11 goals. Lemieux will be making his ninth All-Star appearance.

  • The only shutout in All-Star history occurred in 1967. Charlie Hodge and Gary Bauman combined to stop 35 shots in a 3-0 Montreal victory over the All-Stars.

  • Twenty-six years later in 1993, the highest scoring All-Star game was played. The Wales Conference blistered the Campbell Conference for a 16-6 triumph. Mike Gartner scored four goals and Pierre Turgeon tallied three times to power the Wales Conference.
