Answer for Aug. 16, 1920
This is the box score from one of the most infamous games in history
-- the game Carl Mays hit Ray Chapman in the head with a pitch, killing the
batter. Carried from the field, Chapman supposedly regained consciousness in
the clubhouse long enough to say, "Tell Mays not to worry."
Chapman slipped back into a coma and died the next day. He was 29. He is the
only major leaguer ever killed by a pitch.
