Answer for Oct. 2, 1978
As we enter the season's final week, we continue presenting a series of box scores from classic season-ending games. . .
This is the box score from the 1978 playoff between the Yankees and Red Sox, one of the greatest games ever played. The Red Sox blew a double-digit lead in July, then rallied the final week to catch the Yankees and force the playoff.
Boston led much of the game, only to lose after Bucky Dent hit a lazy fly ball into the net above the Green Monster. Dent's name still inspires chills in Red Sox fans and he doesn't let people forget. He has a hitting school where he had a duplicate of the Green Monster built.
