By Larry Schwartz
Special to ESPN.com

Oct. 31, 1948

Sammy Baugh slings like he never has before - and never will again. The Washington quarterback throws for an NFL record 446 yards in the Redskins' 59-21 victory over the Boston Yanks, breaking Sid Luckman's mark by 13 yards.

Baugh electrifies the crowd of 29,758 in Washington with his aerial artistry. His yardage total comes on just 17 completions (in 24 attempts).

He throws four long touchdown passes, beginning with a 78-yarder to Dick Todd in the first quarter. He hits Joe Tereshinski with a 76-yard pass and Hal Crisler with a 48-yard completion for second-quarter scores. He opens the third period with another touchdown pass to Todd, this one for 38 yards.

This will be the only time Baugh will pass for 400 yards in his 16-year NFL career.
