Craig Morton, who came to the Broncos through a trade with the New York
Giants in 1977, was Denver's starting quarterback for most of the period
from 1977-82. Morton led the Broncos to their first Super Bowl berth in
1977, engineering the Broncos to a 12-2 regular season record and home
playoff wins over Pittsburgh and arch-rival Oakland. Morton was named
AFC MVP in 1977. During his career
with Denver, Morton's 11,895 passing yards ranks him second to John Elway on the Broncos all-time list. He is also second to Elway with 74 touchdown passes. Morton
was an All-American quarterback at the University of California. He
finished his career in 1982.
