Their favorite moments

Anyone who has been to the Texas-Oklahoma game will tell you that there is nothing quite like it. We've asked some of the participants to share their favorite memories of the rivalry and "The Tunnel." Sooners and Longhorns don't agree on much, but the special status of this game is one of those things.

John Mackovic - Texas coach
There were so many classic moments, but one that stands out is the 1994 game. Oklahoma was trying to score at the end of the game and would have tied it up. I cannot remember the exact details (fourth and goal from the three-yard line with :43 seconds left) but it was fourth down and they ran a reverse to the wingback (James Allen), who was mighty fast. Our nose tackle, Stonie Clark, who weighed about 340 pounds, smelled the play out and nailed the wingback just as he cut up for the goal line...it was like a train wreck. The crushing blow stopped the Sooners just one-foot shy of tying the score. Stonie wrote his name in the history and legend of the game that afternoon.

Billy Sims - OU Heisman winner
That's such a great game. My favorite memories are just competing in that game against the Texas guys. I'm from Texas so it was special to go down there to play against guys I knew from my home state. I'm still friends with some of the Texas guys. In fact, I've just been down in Austin with Earl Campbell and Tony Dorsett. If I had to pick my favorite moment it would be beating them 31-10 in my junior year. I had over 100 yards and scored a couple of touchdowns.

Tony Casillas - OU Lombardi Trophy winner
My favorite memory would have to be the 15-15 tie in 1984. It was one of the greatest games I ever played in. Texas was ranked No. 1 and we were ranked No. 2. It was pretty nerve racking. I remember our great goal-line stand in the fourth quarter. Then we got screwed out of the game. After our goal-line stand, Texas got the ball back. We had a DB named Keith Stanberry. He intercepted a Texas pass, but was ruled out of bounds. There was no way Keith was out of bounds. They kicked a field goal to tie. The other thing that I'll always remember is The Tunnel. The teams come down at the same time and there are some verbal jabs going back and forth. One time a teammate grabbed Bevo by the horns. The Texas guys didn't have very nice things to say to us about that.

Marcus Dupree - Sooner RB
I scored my first touchdown in that game on a long run (63 yards). The other thing I remember is The Tunnel. It's hard to describe. You come down that ramp and the stadium is half orange and half red. You really have to experience it to know what I'm talking about.

Keith Moreland - Texas DB
I have never felt anything quite like it at any level of athletics. It's unique in all of sports. You are standing there, right with the guys you are about to go to battle with...you get there at the same time, and you go down together. I have stood at home plate in the World Series and still have never felt anything like The Tunnel.
