Pasadena, Calif. | Jan. 1, 1929

His first name? Roy, but he is known forever as Wrong Way Riegels. The California star grabbed a Georgia Tech fumble in the 1929 Rose Bowl, cut one way, turned again and sprinted -- toward his own end zone. Teammate Benny Lom caught Riegels and spun him around at the Cal 3. Tech converted the miscue into a safety and hung on, winning 8-7. Riegels remains more famous than the result.
