Austin, Texas | Sept. 21, 1968

Texas assistant Emory Bellard tinkered with his new offense the entire summer of 1968. Coach Darrell Royal scheduled three-a-days (!) to install it. And on the first snap in the opener against Houston, quarterback Bill Bradley handed off to Steve Worster … for 1 yard. The Horns tied the Cougars 20-20, lost the next game, and then James Street took over at QB and Texas won its next 30 games. Bellard's wishbone became the offense of champions for two decades.
